Etsy Inspired Challenge #85-Bee Things

Etsy has a fabulous design challenge right now. The deal is that you go to visit Bee Things, a silk-screen designer on Etsy.com and you a designer to inspire your design.

Well, when I went to the storefront several design elements popped out at me. The use of kraft and bright colors, clean lines and simple designs. I was ecstatic!! So, here is my submission for this great contest! I am a color queen, so I had to add a bit more color in areas for emphasis.

So, owl's are totally in right now! They're fun, simple and can add a little playfulness to any card. I found a precious set by Hot Fudge studio, and a dear friend's birthday was today, so this was my first time using the stamp set. I can't wait to use it more!

Basic Grey Challenge-Week 18: Colour Combo 5

Hello there! Today I was able to come home from a long and depressing staff meeting to my craft room to create. After some dismal weather, I was happy to see Basic Grey's Colour Challenge. I really love the collections of Basic Grey! They have whimsical papers, excellent accessories such as dimensional stickers, rub-ons and ribbons.

This week's challenge was to use three colors; blue, gold and white. So, I went through all my paper and found some delightful patterns from My Mind's Eye. So, here's my card. Hope you enjoy!

SUPPLIES:

Cardstock: (White) Stampin Up!
Patterned Paper: (La Paperie) My Mind's Eye
Accents: (Happy Birthday and Flourish Rub-on) Basic Grey. (Buttons). (White pearl stickers) Recollections. (Buttons)
Specialty Ink: (Aegean Blue) Versa Magic Chalk Ink
Fibers: (Cream Twill) American Crafts

This week's featured design is new product from Websters Pages that you can find at Memories Live On or www.scrapbookingsuppliesrus.com. The colors are beautiful, and very soft. I fussy-cut some of the paper to create a more dramatic effect, and only focused on picture in this layout. But, I believe my favorite part of this design are the beautiful doily rub-ons from Hambly Screen Prints.

Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #110

I am absolutely loving making a card every day that I come home from work! I particularly like sketch challenges like Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge!! I love the Cosmo Cricket Earth Love collection, and found this sketch fit the collection beautifully. Enjoy!

Hello all! Second post today! I was busy working on a card challenge, but I wanted to post this little gift I made my mother for her birthday hope you enjoy!

Publication Call for {: Embellish Magazine :} Designs

Ooohh, I am so excited! Although, I have been designing paper crafts since 2005, it is only recently that I have become very interested in publishing my work, and becoming part of a design team.

After researching design teams, publications, resumes from my favorite designers, I have realized that I am somewhat behind in the publication of my work. However, I design for me and to add beauty to my art. So, I will be not be intimidated by the talented designers who have years of work invested in my favorite magazines, or who belong to several design teams. They are amazing women who inspire me, and I hope to be challenged by their work in the creation of my own.

Recently I came upon a delightful online magazine by the name of {: Embellish Magazine :}. The magazine shares designs in all paper craft areas including scrapbooking and card design, but also in home products, albums, frames, invitations, etc.

Every so often they have challenges where designers are given specific criteria to follow in the creation of their design. However, in this challenge, it is a challenge where my work could get published in {: Embellish Magazine :}!! The challenge was to use buttons in a creative way, using only yellow, turquoise, pink & black.

So, this weekend I created two cards. Before I gathered my paper, embellishments and ribbon, I sketched a layout. However, being an artist has taught me that sometimes sketches don't turn out very well when you actually make the piece. So, after I scrapped the original sketch, I dove into my creative imagination, and pulled out two very different designs for the same challenge.

I will be submitting these within the next few days. Wish me luck! I am very excited. Check my blog again in the next couple of weeks for the second {: Embellish Magazine :} challenge I will be entering.

Designs for my wedding

My husband and I were married in the Spring of 2009 which afforded us many design ideas for a season where nature was blooming, and the sky was clear and bright.

Being the artist that I am I deliberated greatly over the theme of our wedding, and finally decided that Branches would be ideal, as my soon-to-be husband's last name was Branch. I also incorporated birds and cherry blossoms into the theme to reinforce the season of spring where trees are blossoming.

I then developed a color scheme of pink and brown and included various tints of pink to a very dark, bold tone of brown for a strong contrast. Many of the paper used in my designs for the wedding were patterned with those tints and tones.

Centerpieces for the table were long, cylindrical vases with cherry blossom branches. Strung from the branches were paper-crafted ornaments that showcase pictures of my husband and I growing up. Also strung from the cherry blossoms were beautiful crystals. Paper-crafted frames graced the site and showcased our Engagement photos using crackled paint techniques, with torn patterned paper, floral embellishments, rhinestones & ribbons.

Favors were little pink birds nestled atop a brown box that hid a delicious chocolate egg that wished the guests a "Bon Appetweet."

However, the highlight of the designs were the wedding cake that re-inforced the cherry blosssom & branch theme, with a hand-crafted "B" cake topper.
