Ooohh, I am so excited! Although, I have been designing paper crafts since 2005, it is only recently that I have become very interested in publishing my work, and becoming part of a design team.
After researching design teams, publications, resumes from my favorite designers, I have realized that I am somewhat behind in the publication of my work. However, I design for me and to add beauty to my art. So, I will be not be intimidated by the talented designers who have years of work invested in my favorite magazines, or who belong to several design teams. They are amazing women who inspire me, and I hope to be challenged by their work in the creation of my own.
Recently I came upon a delightful online magazine by the name of {: Embellish Magazine :}. The magazine shares designs in all paper craft areas including scrapbooking and card design, but also in home products, albums, frames, invitations, etc.
Every so often they have challenges where designers are given specific criteria to follow in the creation of their design. However, in this challenge, it is a challenge where my work could get published in {: Embellish Magazine :}!! The challenge was to use buttons in a creative way, using only yellow, turquoise, pink & black.
So, this weekend I created two cards. Before I gathered my paper, embellishments and ribbon, I sketched a layout. However, being an artist has taught me that sometimes sketches don't turn out very well when you actually make the piece. So, after I scrapped the original sketch, I dove into my creative imagination, and pulled out two very different designs for the same challenge.
I will be submitting these within the next few days. Wish me luck! I am very excited. Check my blog again in the next couple of weeks for the second {: Embellish Magazine :} challenge I will be entering.
